He married Johanna Hendrina Elizabeth Grobbelaar (great-great-grandfather’s son-in-law’s great-grandson’s sister-in-law), daughter of Willem Isaak Grobler and Judith Magdalena Odendaal, on September 7, 1862 in Cradock, Eastern Cape. She was born on October 27, 1840 in Middelburg, Eastern Cape and died on March 6, 1899 in Brakfontein, Dist. Cradock, Eastern Cape at the age of 58.
