He married Susanna Sophia Wilke (sister-in-law’s second cousin’s daughter), daughter of Johannes Joachim Wilke and Susanna Sophia Burger, on June 4, 1820 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape. She died on April 24, 1867 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape.
