He married Jacoba Alida Johanna Theron, daughter of Pieter Willem Theron and Jacoba Alida Weideman, on April 7, 1917 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She was born on June 20, 1888 in Gannalaagte, Dist. Aberdeen, Eastern Cape and died on July 3, 1972 in Pretoria, Gauteng at the age of 84.
