Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape at the age of 53. He married 2 times. The first time he married Elisabeth Johanna Susanna Meintjies on December 30, 1810 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape. She was baptized on October 20, 1793. The second time he married Susanna Elizabeth Maartens (great-uncle’s niece-in-law’s father’s great-niece), daughter of Matthys Daniel Maartens and Susanna Haarhof, on April 9, 1815 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape.
