The Netherlands is invaded by the French under the leadership of Napoléon Bonaparte. A republic is declared by Dutch revolutionaires and the Prince of Orange flees to England. 16 September – British forces under General Sir James Henry Craig seizes the Cape Colony for the Stadtholder Prince William V of Orange.     1. Jan Minnaar, son of Philippe Mesnard and Jeanne Mouy, was baptized on July 14, 1715. He married Anna Catharina Nieuwoudt (sister-in-law), daughter of Isaak Nieuwoudt and Johanna “Anna” van Wyk, on October 15, 1752. She was baptized on March 2, 1732 in Cape Town, Western Cape.

She married Johannes Nieuwoudt (brother-in-law), son of Isaak Nieuwoudt and Johanna “Anna” van Wyk, on October 15, 1752. He was baptized on July 15, 1725 in Cape Town, Western Cape and died on August 28, 1785 at the age of 60.

He died before 1815. The second time she married Francois du Toit (uncle’s son-in-law’s uncle’s great-grandson), son of Pieter du Toit and Botha, on March 5, 1815 in Paarl, Western Cape. He was baptized on March 29, 1766.

    2. Johannes Nieuwoudt, son of Johannes Nieuwoudt and Anna Minnaar, was born on April 17, 1764 in Dist. Swellendam, Western Cape and died on October 25, 1855 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape at the age of 91. He married 3 times. The first time he married Gertruida Cloete (wife’s first cousin’s sister-in-law), daughter of Johannes Hendrik Cloete and Margaretha Rabie, on November 23, 1800. She was baptized on August 17, 1777. The second time he married Elsje Johanna Joubert (sister-in-law’s first cousin), daughter of Johannes Petrus “Jan” Joubert and Maria Magdalena van den Berg, on July 5, 1818 in Swellendam, Western Cape. She was born on December 5, 1797 in Dist. Swellendam, Western Cape and died on July 16, 1843 in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape at the age of 45. The third time he married Maria Magdalena Smit about 1845.
