He married Maria Susanna Theron (great-grandmother’s uncle’s great-niece), daughter of Charl David “Charles” Theron and Maria Susanna Fourie, on February 21, 1848 in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. She was born on June 26, 1825 and died on February 20, 1890 in Bloemhof, North West Province at the age of 64.

    1. Maria Susanna Stear, daughter of John Richard Stear and Maria Susanna Theron, was born on April 30, 1851 and died on November 27, 1939 at the age of 88. She married Marthinus Christoffel Botha (great-aunt’s aunt’s great-grandson), son of Adam Botha and Susanna Catharina Jänecke, on February 16, 1865 in George, Western Cape. He was born on May 21, 1842 and died on October 20, 1888 at the age of 46.

Barbara Wilhelmina Stear, daughter of John Richard Stear and Maria Susanna Theron, was born on October 14, 1855 in Boshof, Free State and died on August 8, 1934 in Christiana, North West Province at the age of 78. She married 2 times. The first time she married Johan Hendrick Christoffel Kok. The second time she married Petrus Hermanus Pretorius (great-uncle’s son’s wife’s uncle’s grandson), son of Johannes Jacobus Pretorius and Elisabeth Maria van Vreeden, on February 15, 1904 in Boshof, Free State. He was born on November 18, 1831 and died on March 23, 1908 at the age of 76.

    3. Johanna Richardina Stear, daughter of John Richard Stear and Maria Susanna Theron. She married Hercules Johannes du Toit (fourth cousin once removed descending), son of Albertus Hendrik Adriaan du Toit and Barbara Jacomina Magrietha Viljoen, in Boshof, Free State. He was born calculated July 1854 and died on December 11, 1924 in Blauwboschkuil, Wolmaransstad, North West Province.
