Note: The Dutch East India Company is in financial ruins. 29 January – Farmers expelled the officials of the Dutch East India Company and established an independent government at Graaff Reinet. 18 June - Swellendam follows Graaff Reinet and declares a republic under Hermanus Steyn. The Netherlands is invaded by the French under the leadership of Napoléon Bonaparte. A republic is declared by Dutch revolutionaires and the Prince of Orange flees to England. 16 September – British forces under General Sir James Henry Craig seizes the Cape Colony for the Stadtholder Prince William V of Orange. The republics of Graaff Reinet and Swellendam reject the British and the British army is sent in. The start of free trade was announced.

    1. Dorothea Elizabeth Hertzog, daughter of Johann Barthold Bartel Hertzog and Anna Maria Roos, was baptized on July 10, 1740 and died on June 11, 1832 at the age of 91.

      She married Izaak Nieuwoudt, son of Isaak Nieuwoudt and Johanna Anna van Wyk, on May 20, 1759. He was baptized on July 16, 1730 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

    1. Johanna Maria Nieuwoudt, daughter of Izaak Nieuwoudt and Dorothea Elizabeth Hertzog, was baptized on July 12, 1761 and died in 1816 at the age of 54.

      She married Petrus Johannes Theron, son of Carel Theron and Susanna du Plessis, on May 2, 1784. He was baptized on January 6, 1765 and died on April 18, 1834 in Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa at the age of 69.

    2. Heremias Nieuwoudt, son of Izaak Nieuwoudt and Dorothea Elizabeth Hertzog, was baptized on February 28, 1773 in Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa and died on December 26, 1851 in Toon Bothasfontein, Richmond, Northern Cape, South Africa at the age of 78.

      He married Jacoba Louisa Hendriks, daughter of Johannes Jacob Hendriks and Maria de Leeuw, on July 24, 1796 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. She was born on January 18, 1778.
