Note: The Dutch East India Company is in financial ruins. 29 January – Farmers expelled the officials of the Dutch East India Company and established an independent government at Graaff Reinet. 18 June - Swellendam follows Graaff Reinet and declares a republic under Hermanus Steyn. The Netherlands is invaded by the French under the leadership of Napoléon Bonaparte. A republic is declared by Dutch revolutionaires and the Prince of Orange flees to England. 16 September – British forces under General Sir James Henry Craig seizes the Cape Colony for the Stadtholder Prince William V of Orange. The republics of Graaff Reinet and Swellendam reject the British and the British army is sent in. The start of free trade was announced.

      She married Jeremias Cornelis Nieuwoudt, son of Gerrit Nieuwoudt and Johanna Steenkamp, on August 20, 1775 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. He was baptized on June 28, 1744 in Drakenstein, Western Cape, South Africa and died on May 18, 1811 at the age of 66.

    1. Heremias Cornelis Nieuwoudt, son of Jeremias Cornelis Nieuwoudt and Jacoba Botma, was born on December 14, 1787 in Klynfontein, Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa and died on March 4, 1859 in Dist. Calvinia, Northern Cape, South Africa at the age of 71.

      He married 3 times. The first time he married Jannetjie Sophia Johanna Bock, daughter of Michiel Nicolaas Bok and Johanna Sophia Jannetjie Steenkamp, on February 7, 1808 in Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. She was born on March 29, 1790 in Groenrivier, Onder-Bokkeveld, Dist. Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa and died on February 27, 1840 in Groenrivier, Onder-Bokkeveld, Dist. Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa at the age of 49.

      The second time he married Sophia Maria Jacoba van der Merwe, daughter of Willem Schalk van der Merwe and Anna Louisa Jacobs, on May 16, 1841 in Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa. She was born on May 6, 1812 in Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa and died on November 20, 1842 in Onder-Bokkeveld, Calvinia, Northern Cape, South Africa at the age of 30.

      The third time he married Maria Magdalena van Zyl, daughter of Gideon van Zyl and Catharina Johanna Kriel, on June 9, 1845 in Drooge Rivier, Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa. She was born in Kruisfontein, South Africa and died on March 13, 1864 in Modderfontein, South Africa.
